Hospitals as leading centers in providing therapeutic and health care services in the country, endeavor to improve the health of individuals, restore health of patients in need and do scientific and efficient management in all levels. Based on it, this research has been conducted to determine the most effective factors in increasing the efficiency of hospitals from the viewpoints of managers in training and treatment centers of Iran University of Medical Sciences in 1999. These effective factors are analytically-descriptively studied in this research. In order to collect data, a questionnaire was complied related with the aim of study in which the viewpoints of 13 managers of training and treatment centers of university about the effective factors were questioned. The results show that the most effective index in increasing the efficiency is the average of hospitalization (69.2%). Managers have mentioned stop in accepting patients (84.6%) the most effective factor in reducing bed turnover rate, and the most effective factors in reducing the costs are mentioned the reduction in the costs of educational courses (61.5%) for the staff, decision making, proper management and continuous control. Managers also believe that the effect of activities in equipment maintenance committee and medical records committee in the analysis of performance indexes are extraordinarily high (84.6%). They have also mentioned that the most important barrier in the increase of efficiency of hospitals is the lack of experience in the management.
