In this project, a cross-sectional study has been conducted on the performances of sterile supply departments in public hospitals of East Azerbaijan, Tabriz in five divisions of physical design, equipments and facilities, workflow, packaging, storing and distributing surgical instruments, sterilization control methods and disinfection. Data were collected through observation sheets and preplanned interviews. All public hospitals were studied. All information was displayed by descriptive statistics in tables and graphs. It was declared that the performance of one fourth of hospitals was acceptable and better, but the remaining hospitals (third fourth) did not perform well. Hospital No. 17 had the highest standard (78.9%) and the hospital No. 15 had the lowest level of standard (24.2). Moreover, non-teaching hospitals performed better than teaching ones and those independent from ministry of health performed better than those dominated by ministry of health.
