This research adjustment of application of Internatinal Classification of Diseasesias, as well as Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in Tehran psychiatric centers, was carried out between 2001-2002 and was accomplished through a descriptive method.
The information was collected by questionnaires and consisted of attending sessions by researchers. The Research community code clerks, and clinical instruction practiceing in psychiatric ceneters of Tehran, Iran and Shahid Beheshti Universities of Medical Sciences.
The findings show that most clinical experts consider the medical record of patients (15.8%) as the third piority amongst applicable information resources. Other findings in this research are as follows:
1- Coding of mental disorders is implemented in 75% of psychiatric centers, in many of which (66.6%), ICD-10 is used for coding of medical records.
2- Most clinicians (48.4%) and code clerks (50%) have a positive attitude about some revision on the mental disoders classification.
3- Most individuals within research circle agree upon development of a national classification of mental disorders. (clinicians 64.6% & code clerks 50%)
4- Most clinicians and code clerks agree with the Application of International Classification of Diseases, as well as Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorders- and believe that they are essential, and they had a consensus on using those classifications.
