As a descriptive study, the present work intends to generally investigate the reasons for volunteers' participation in the entrance exam of MS degree in librarianship and medical information course and the methods of their acquaintance with it. All volunteers participating in the entrance exam in 1994 were studied as subjects in this research. Subjects were 173 including 123 females and 50 males. Data were collected by questionnaires containing subjects' demographic information, reasons for their participation in the entrance exam for MS degree in librarianship and medical information course and methods of their acquaintance with the course. The questionnaires were distributed among participating subjects on the distribution day of entrance cards and were collected on the same day and in the same place. Responses of all subjects were analyzed for this study. The results showed that 28.5% of respondents were got acquainted with the course by university and professors, 17.4% by friends and 11.8% by graduates of this course. Multimedia devices influenced their acquaintance with the course about 10%. The results also showed that three major reasons for the selection of librarianship and medical information course by volunteers were as follows according to their priority: - Continuing studies in higher degrees (43.5 %) - Interest in books (26.2 %) - Job promotion (23.5 %) The findings also displayed that there was a significant association between interest rate of volunteers in the course and their knowledge of the course (X2 = 17.67, df = 5, p = 0.013) There was also an association between the interests of volunteers and their major in BA (X2 = 10.8, df = 4, p = 0.025) There was no association between the interest of the volunteers in the course and factors such as place of graduation, type of BA degree, age, gender and occupation.
